Helmut Newton is one of the most important and controversial photographers of the 20th Century. Newton’s pictures, whether fashion, nude or portraits, are often highly erotic, bold, and provocative.
In his somewhat perverse style of photography he worked for magazines like Vogue, which was his biggest client. They loved his style and probably understood his quote “I just like women….’. With his glamorous, erotic and a bit anarchistic style he produced a massive legacy in photography.
Polaroids were, at the time of film photography, an important tool. Camera’s as Hasselblad and Mamiya did have a polaroid back to test the shot before the actual shooting. The legendary photographer Helmut Newton has saved all his polaroids and his widow, June Newton, has put them together in the magnificent book “Helmut Newton – Polaroids”.
