William Klein in pictures

I came across William Klein’s work as a photographer in a BBC documentary. I was really impressed by the way he was able to put his character and own rawness in his pictures. Especially in his photographs of the people in New York, in particulary in Harlem. As a New Yorker he prowled the streets of Harlem with his camera, which was very unusual for a white man in those days. But he had the character to pull it off. He did various new things in his time. He shot wide- angle lenses and didn’t mind the distortion in portraits, he experimented with shapes and light, was a fashion photographer, but also a cineast and made a movie about the famous boxer Mohammed Ali. All together William Klein is an impressive artist – photographer which I believe is still alive and living in Paris at this time. See below a small collection of his most famous work.
